Compact Inflatable Kayaks

When camping, you need everything to be as compact as possible. You will probably go hiking and you need to carry a backpack with everything that you need. You don’t need those items to be too large or too heavy. The average backpack weighs 40 pounds or more, so you definitely don’t need the rest of the weight.

If you intend on going boating, one way to make it to the river without breaking your back is with inflatable kayaks. Inflatable kayaks are exactly as they sound. You can use an air pump to pump them up and they don’t weigh much at all. They will, however, accommodate the number of people that it is designed to accommodate.

Just don’t forget to take the following with you:

  • Patches in case the boat would become punctured.
  • Food so that you can pull over and have a dinner or lunch break. Make sure you pack enough in case something happens you become stranded somewhere.
  • Make sure there is plenty of water for everyone. Kayaking involves some physical activity, so it is important to be hydrated.
  • A radio so that you can call for help if you need to. You will also need flares and anything that can tell someone you’re stranded if you are.
  • A first aid kit to make sure everyone is safe and taken care of if they’re injured. You need the basics such as bandages, antibiotic ointment, bee sting kits, tape, finger splints, and iodine.
  • Lifejackets are also very important in case someone is thrown out of the inflatable kayak or the boat is damaged.
  • Make sure you have lighting devices in case you are stuck in the dark.
  • Bring a weather radio so that you can listen to the weather and make sure you are not going to get stuck in bad weather.

These are all very important tips when taking an inflatable kayak out on your camping trip. As long as you take as many safety measures as you can, everything should be okay. At least you know if something does happen, you and your family and/or friends can be safe.
