Tips and Tricks in Homemade Mosquito Repellent

Mosquito repellent is a must have during the summer season. No matter where you live or where you plan to visit, there is a pretty good chance that mosquitoes live and breed there as well. Furthermore, there is a good chance that they are hungry and waiting for some nice fleshy skin to bite in to! However, mosquito repellent can be quite pricey as well as very harmful to the environment and to your children’s lungs. After all, the main ingredients in mosquito repellent include harmful chemicals such as carbon monoxide. If you are looking for an alternative to mosquito repellent, why not try them all natural homemade mosquito repellent remedies that do the trick without putting a hole in your wallet, or the ozone layer. .

Opt for Rubbing Alcohol

Homemade mosquito repellent can be made with this simple household item. Simply dab a little bit of rubbing alcohol on your body and you are home free. Furthermore, rubbing alcohol leaves a pleasant smell on your skin once it dries and only costs about 1 dollar per bottle! Compared to the 15$ or more for mosquito repellent, this homemade mosquito repellent is definitely worth a try.

Vaporize the Mosquitoes with Vaporub

Another great option is the classic ‘get-well-rub’ Vaporub. Vick’s Vaporub is great for not only repellent mosquitoes but also other insects such as ticks. Plus, if you like the menthol smell of Vaporub, then you will love rubbing it all over your arms and legs. Breathe deep!

A Homemade Mosquito Repellent Formula

If you are looking to mix up your own mosquito repellent formula to bring camping with you, then try this recipe: 20 drops eucalyptus oil, 20 drops cedar wood oil, 10 drops tea tree oil, 10 drops geranium oil and 2 oz carrier oil such as jojoba. Mix the essential oils together in a container and spray on your skin. Make sure you avoid the eyes and always test on a small patch to ensure that your skin is not allergic to the oils involved. This all natural combination will soothe your skin and keep those pesky insects away.
