Mom Must Haves: Keeping Active with Baby Backpacks

Sure, a stroller is a great way to carry your little bundle of joy around. However, when you are going camping or hiking with the family, a stroller may not be the most convenient choice. One of the better options is a baby backpack. However, before you go out and purchase the biggest, brightest baby backpack on the market, you need to make sure you are choosing wisely for both you and for baby.

What is a Baby Backpack?

Essentially, a baby backpack is a backpack that includes a seat for the baby. The baby seat takes the place of the gear compartment. A baby backpack should be fitted right so that the baby’s weight is evening spread on your shoulders and hips. Six Great Tips to Keeping Baby Protected

  • Keep in mind that babies should not be placed in a backpack until they can sit up on his own which is around 5 to 6 months.
  • The best models are those that are lightweight and durable and built for all seasons and occasions. Also look for a model that has a stable support stand and adjustable seat and harness so the baby will not outgrow it.
  • Make sure you do not use the baby carrier when jogging, driving or doing an activity that requires balance like skating or bike riding.
  • It’s also a good idea to invest in a baby backpack that has a waist belt. This will help distribute the weight better, especially when the baby gets bigger and heavier.
  • When hiking and camping, make sure you invest in a canopy to protect them from the rain and the wind.
  • The best baby backpacks are those that also have easy to access pockets on the sides. You can carry water for you and baby accessories for him to make the trip more enjoyable for both of you.
