Mosquito nets are an ideal way to protect your family from those pesky and potential harmful mosquitoes this outdoor season. Mosquito netting is most often used in tropical areas, which are great for sun, sand and sea, but not so great for mosquitoes. In fact, mosquitoes are not only frequent in tropical areas, but they are also harmful. Some carry diseases such as the West Nile Virus, malaria and dengue fever, all of which can make you very sick (and some of which can actually be fatal).
The best defense against tropical mosquitoes is mosquito nets.
As mentioned above, mosquito netting is commonly used in the tropics. Mosquito netting is a mesh net that goes over a certain area such as a bed, an outdoor gazebo or even a person. The mosquito netting acts as a barrier between you and those harmful mosquitoes. Mosquito netting is usually made out of polyester or polyamide and are lightweight. They can be carried when you are camping. Another option is mosquito netting made of cotton, which are tougher and also heavier but provide extra protection and durability on those longer stays in the tropics.
The size of your mosquito netting depends on your situation. You will want a mesh area that is large enough for air to circulate but small enough so that the pesky buggers cannot find their way in. The best mosquito netting size is probably 1.2mm x 1.2mm as this can keep the mosquitoes out but keep your breathing safely.
A final thing to consider when it comes to purchasing mosquito nets for your family’s protection is the shape of the netting. The mosquito net should be wide enough to cover a person but not so small that it causes them to become claustrophobic. Furthermore, you want the mosquito net to remain away from the skin. If the mosquito net is touching the skin, the effect of the netting will be negated. A rectangular mosquito net is often the best for sleeping as you can tuck the sides under the bed and attach the bet with hooks all around your sleeping area.
