It seems like no matter how many times you stress the point that the group should not separate while camping or hiking, it always seems to happen anyways. It seems like it is unavoidable. However, it does happen, you do not have to stress as much as you would have in the past. This is because there are numerous ways to stay in touch and many methods that can be used in order to find any lost members who have become separated. Here are some of the ways that you can ensure that no one becomes severely lost too deep in to the woods before they are reunited with the group.
These devices can be given to each member of the group. If each member has an electronic location device, then they will be able to look at their screen on their device and see the location of all of the other electronic location devices, which would be the other members of the group. These devices operate off of batteries so it is important to carry a supply of extra batteries, just in case.
Distress signals would be flares or air horns. If a member becomes lost, they can sound off their air horn which will provide you with an idea of how far or near they are located depending on how loud or far away the noise seemed to be. You can follow the sound. Flares will allow you to visually see the light of where they are, so you can follow the area that is lit up by the flare. These will send a bit of smoke into the air too, which is great for during the day.
Equipping every member or each group with a Uniden two way radio is one of the most dependable methods available. The Uniden two way radios allow you to verbally communicate with the lost group or individual and allow you to help direct them to where they need to go or to help the both of you meet up.
