You’ve arrived at your campsite. You’ve set up the tent. You’ve built a campfire. The marshmallows are waiting. You’re all set for sitting around the fire, a time-honored camping tradition. But what are you going to sit on? The ground? Cold and hard. A handy log? Only if there is one handy. What you really need is a chair. Fortunately, there are dozens of portable camping chairs. They’re made for the outdoors, yet they’re also comfortable. Check out the following information, then try out your favorite style.
Coleman, a supplier of nearly everything for camping, provides a comfortable resting spot with its line of camping chairs. Coleman knows you want more than just a place to sit, although that’s available, too, with the Rambler Stool or Woodsman Chair. The more luxurious chairs in the line have such accessories as fold-up tables, cooler pouches, armrests with drink holders, and sunshades. There’s even a footstool! Now that’s sure to start a fight—better get several!
Double camping chairs come in a variety of styles and fabrics. Constructed of a durable fabric over a metal frame they range from simple side-by-side seats for two all the way up to two seats, a center table, and an umbrella. The most popular versions seem to be two seats separated by a center console or table, with room for drinks and snacks and space underneath to stow a small item or two. Fabrics may be all one color, a different color for each seat, or even stripes. Especially cute are the double chairs made for kids—good for snuggling up with a friend, sibling, or cousin.
While not as common as metal-frame chairs, there are some great wood-frame chairs out there. These consist of a folding wooden frame, usually a hardwood such as ash, and fabric seat and back, often polyester for durability. There may be a separate seat and back, like a director’s chair, or one piece of fabric that makes a sling. The back is sometimes adjustable which makes for comfortable star gazing.
