All You Need to Know About Camping Lanterns

Be prepared on your next camping trip by ensuring you have a camping lantern that is suited for you. Camping lanterns come in all different sizes, styles, brand names and costs. Although Coleman is one of the biggest names in camping lanterns, there are several others that are just as reliable. It’s important to know what you are looking for before starting your search.

The Different Types of Lanterns

There are essentially two different types of camping lanterns. There are the gas camping lanterns which are usually propane fuelled, and the battery operated camping lanterns, which are battery-powered. However, there are additional varieties on both. For example, the propane camping lantern also comes in an instant start option which makes it easier to light. Battery lanterns operate with various size batteries and rechargeable batteries. Furthermore, some work with LED light while others use the traditional light bulbs.

The Best Lantern for you

For those who are planning on doing a lot of hiking and outdoor activities where you require light, it might be a good idea to go for a battery operated lantern. They are more durable and stable which means they can handle the rugged terrain and all-weather adventures.

For those who do a lot of camping in the colder climates, a gas lantern may be best because not only does it project light, but it also emits a warm glow of heat which can be perfect for those chilly evenings or at campsites that do not allow campfires.

For those with young children, a battery operated light, or instant start propane light is probably the best bet because they are easier to light and tend to be safer for the little fingers. Battery operated lights do not get as hot and thus there is a less likely chance of someone getting burned.

Additional Information

All lanterns are around the same price- $40 to $140 depending on the size and style. However, keep in mind that, on top of this charge, you will also need to purpose propane for gas lanterns and batteries for non-rechargeable battery operated lanterns.
