Imagine sleeping out under the stars with nothing between you and the endless sky. Well, except for that bank of clouds rolling in from the west. Before you know it, the stars are gone and rain is falling on your face. It’s falling on all your gear, too, and your shoes will be wet in the morning. If only you’d brought the tent, you could be warm and dry, as drops fall lightly on the rain fly. Tents today are easier to set up than ever before and improved ventilation makes them more comfortable. Whether you need a tent for two or for a crowd, you’ll easily find what you want.
The Eureka Headquarters is a mid-sized family tent capable of sleeping six. It measures 12x8.5 feet and can be split into two rooms with a removable divider. Two doors allow easy access and large hooded windows provide ventilation but keep rain out, as does the StormShield polyester rain fly. The frame has durable aluminum shock-corded poles for easy set up and stability; the floor is heavy-duty nylon oxford while the walls are nylon taffeta. This is a perfect tent for three-season camping with your kids.
This tent weighs just under five pounds and sleeps two, making it a good choice for a backpacking trip. Its two poles go together quickly and color-coded clips help finish the setup in no time. Ventilation isn’t a problem thanks to two doors and mesh vents on all sides as well as in the roof. When the rain fly is added, each door has a 12-square-foot vestibule for gear storage, making more room inside the tent for sleeping. Inside extras include a flashlight loop and two mesh pockets.
The Sundome tent series includes five tents ranging from 5x7 square feet to 10x12 square feet. Called dome tents because of their shape, they are easy to set up and take down. They feature two shock-corded poles that cross at the peak and support a rain fly. Mesh vents supply ventilation and a built-in doormat keeps the dirt out.
