COMPACT BINOCULARS

Among the most popular of binocular styles are the compacts. Good quality compact binoculars have all the features of their larger counterparts, with the exception of size of the objective lens. (This is the lens at the outer end of the binoculars.) Compact binoculars tend to have smaller objective lenses, which results in less light being able to enter. However, magnification power is still in the 8X to 10X range for most binoculars. In general, you can use compact binoculars for any purpose except in low light. And their small size and light weight means you can take them almost anywhere.

Nikon Compact Binoculars

Nikon offers a large selection of compact binoculars. There are several in the Travelite V series, which features an ergonomic carbon-fiber body covered with rubber for an easy grip and shock resistance. The EagleView Zoom binoculars have a range in magnification from 8X to 24X with 25-millimeter objective lenses. If you need something that is rugged, waterproof, and fog proof, the ProStaff ATB (All-Terrain Binoculars) are a good choice. All Nikon binoculars come with the company’s no-fault repair/replacement warranty.

Zeiss Compact Binoculars

Zeiss makes only four compact binoculars but they’re worth taking a look at. All feature excellent optics with T-Multicoating (to optimize light getting through) on the lenses and individual left and right focusing. Ergonomic design for a comfortable grip and accommodations for eyeglass wearers are also evident. The Conquest binoculars are water-resistant and feature a Z-fold design for maximum compactness, while the Victory binoculars are waterproof and fog proof.

Bushnell Compact Binoculars

Bushnell’s extensive selection of compact binoculars covers just about any need. There are several models that are basic binoculars with 8X or 10X magnification. But there are also versions with built-in cameras, zoom focus, or permanent focus. Some will let you get right up close to what you’re viewing and others have an extra-wide field of view. There are waterproof, fog proof models and models with camouflage coloring. And like most binoculars today, they are lightweight and designed to be rugged, shock-resistant, comfortable to hold, and easy to focus.
