The very nature of the ozone molecule as one of nature’s most effective disinfectants and purifiers is what has made it the preferred choice in terms of water purification. Ozone water treatment is the method used to purify 90% of global supply. This percentage also takes into account bottled water which once treated in this way is denoted as being microbiologically pure. The ozone molecule is a creation of the ultraviolet rays that are produced by the sun. Ozone water purifiers also work on the same principle only that in this case the sun is replaced by a UV lamp. The lamp’s UV light alters the structure of oxygen into ozone and consequently all the microorganisms within the water are oxidized which in effect means that they are eliminated.
Every ozone water purifier system consists of an ozone generator at the heart of which is an ultraviolet lamp of high intensity. Also in the device is a chamber into which compressed air is directed and consequently converted into ozone. The other main component is the diffuser where the ozone just formed is converted into ozone-filled bubbles. These bubbles are then combined with water inside a purification tank. It is in this tank that the aforementioned microorganisms are oxidized. Though the water is totally purified courtesy of the ozone action it still contains inorganic particles. These are gotten rid of by means of special filters and as such the water doesn’t look cloudy any more.
Backpack-hoisted ozone water purifiers that are quite complex in design are actually in the market but they do cost a heftier amount than ‘conventional’ alternatives. While it may be sound financial advice to go for the cheaper options someone like a nature photographer will be thankful for a device whose components don’t need constant replacement.
The average household ozone water purifier consumes roughly 32 watts of power. A portable model that will suffice for a family camping trip will not require anything much different but the important thing is to have a good power source that can be relied upon for the period of the trip.
Of all things it is unimaginable to forget bringing along a tent heater on the family camping trip. Many are the times when a long-planned camping trip is suddenly marred by the shocking realization that this item has been left at home.
